    BSKB Partners to Co-Chair and Lecture at PLI Seminars

    BSKB partners Leonard R. Svensson and Gerald M. Murphy, Jr., will serve as co-chairs of the PLI seminar “Reissue and Reexamination Strategies and Tactics with Concurrent Litigation.” Mr. Svensson will co-chair the San Francisco seminar, and Mr. Murphy will co-chair the New York seminar. Fellow BSKB partner Eugene T. Perez will speak at the New York seminar. Mr. Murphy and Mr. Svensson are also featured speakers at PLI’s 5th Annual Patent Law Institute.

    BSKB to Host Webinars on Post Grant Proceedings – Register Today!

    BSKB is partnering with Managing IP to present two complimentary webinars on post grant proceedings. Partners Gerald Murphy, Jr. and Eugene Perez will explore the various stages of post grant proceedings and examine issues that petitioners and patent owners should keep in mind when entering into these proceedings. The first webinar, Pitfalls in the First Phase of Post Grant Proceedings, will be held on April 16, 2015 at 4pm EST and will focus on common mistakes made during the first phase of post grant proceedings, namely the filing of the Petition and up through the Institution Decision. Issues covered will include what to allege in the Petition, redundancy, the real party in interest requirement (including privity), joinder, estoppel and claim construction.

    MaryAnne Armstrong, Ph.D., partner at BSKB, will present a webinar entitled “Pitfalls to Avoid in Collaborative Research” for the Chemistry and the Law (CHAL) division of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The webinar will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00pm EDT, and there is no cost to attend. The CHAL webinar series is focused on patent-related topics of interest to chemists, and this webinar will focus on collaborative research considerations.

    Partner Charles Gorenstein Quoted in IP360 Article on Yahoo v. Facebook Case

    BSKB partner Charles Gorenstein was quoted in a March 14, 2012 Intellectual Property Law360 article about Yahoo’s latest suit against Facebook, filed this week in a California court. The case, which alleges that Facebook infringes on 10 Yahoo patents related to advertising, privacy and social networking, is being watched closely for its impact on Yahoo’s faltering bottom line. According to Mr. Gorenstein, however, “a patent suit is probably not going to be at the forefront of most consumers’ minds.” He explains in the article, “I don’t know that the fact that this occurred is going to cause people to not use Yahoo.” Subscribers can read the full article on Law360’s website.

They will present a lecture on the topic of post grant patent proceedings, explaining when each type of procedure can be used and the advantages and disadvantages of each procedure.

    BSKB partners Gerald M. Murphy, Jr. and Leonard R. Svensson have been invited to speak at the Practising Law Institute (PLI)’s 8th annual Patent Law Institute. The 2014 Patent Law Institute will be held in New York, NY on February 3-4, 2014, and in San Francisco, CA on March 17-18, 2014. The seminar provides up to date information about U.S. patent law from seasoned practitioners, who lead breakout sessions that go into depth on such issues as prosecution and litigation.

    BSKB Co-Sponsors Howard University Law School’s 13th Annual IP Law Seminar – Gerald Murphy to Speak

    BSKB will co-sponsor the 13th Annual Intellectual Property Law Seminar hosted by Howard University’s Institute for Intellectual Property and Social Justice. The day-long seminar will be held at the Howard University School of Law on March 4, 2016, and will feature speakers from government entities, corporations and private practice covering a variety of intellectual property topics. Distinguished guests include Hon. Susan G. Braden of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, Hon. Charles E.     BSKB partner Gerald Murphy, Jr. and associate Lynde Herzbach will speak at an upcoming webinar entitled “Cuozzo Challenges Inter Partes Review: So What?” The webinar will be hosted by IP Watchdog’s Gene Quinn as part of Patent Masterminds: An Innography Series. The webinar will discuss Inter Partes Review (IPR) post grant proceedings in light of the Cuozzo Speed Technologies v. Lee case at the Supreme Court and what this means for future IPR proceedings.

    Charles Gorenstein Quoted in IP Watch Article on Impact of U.S. Government Shutdown

    Charles Gorenstein, partner at BSKB, was quoted in an October 9, 2013 Intellectual Property Watch article on the impact of the U.S. government shutdown on the IP world. Regarding the shuttering of the U.S. International Trade Commission, Mr. Gorenstein says “These [USITC] actions move very quickly, so this gives alleged infringers more time to get their legal defences together. That could be a major advantage in some cases.”

    Charles Gorenstein Quoted in E Commerce Times on President Obama’s Comments on Patent Trolls

    Charles Gorenstein, partner at BSKB, was quoted in a June 5, 2013 E Commerce Times article regarding Obama administrations targeting of patent trolls with a number of initiatives aimed at curbing activity it blames for stymieing innovation in America. Patent trolls have been accused of abusing the system to squeeze money from just about anyone using technology containing their intellectual property. However, they’ve also been praised for protecting small inventors from being crushed by corporations.

    James Slattery and Binli Guan to Speak at China Trademark Annual Meeting

    James Slattery, partner at BSKB, and Binli Guan, IP Advisor at BSKB, have been invited to speak at the 2012 China Trademark Annual Meeting in Kunming. The meeting, sponsored by the Chinese Trademark Association, will be held September 3 to 5, 2012. Mr. Slattery and Ms. Guan will lecture in conjunction with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), addressing particular problems relating to prosecuting trademark applications in the USPTO based on the Madrid Protocol.

    Greg Hsu and Binli Guan to Lecture in Taiwan Regarding U.S. IP Law

    BSKB partner Greg Hsu and BSKB IP Advisor Binli Guan will present lectures regarding recent changes in U.S. IP law at a one-day seminar in Taipei on March 20, 2013. Mr. Hsu will present a lecture entitled “The Coming of a New Era – Detailed Analysis of the Final Rules and Examination Guidelines of the First Inventor to File System.” Ms. Guan will discuss recent changes in U.S. trademark practice, including the introduction of new gTLD registers and internet use and trademark monitoring. The seminar is sponsored by Wideband IP Office.

Dr. Armstrong shared her expertise on duty of disclosure in light of Therasense. Dr. Armstrong is the Chair-Elect of the Chemistry & the Law (CHAL) Division of the American Chemical Society.
