    BSKB Partners Invited to Speak at Joint Seminar Hosted by UBIC Patent Partners in Tokyo, Japan

    BSKB partners Marc Weiner, Rick Anderson and Chad Billings have been invited to lecture at a seminar hosted by UBIC Patent Partners in Tokyo, Japan on April 23, 2014. Mr. Hajime Shirasaka of UBIC Patent Partners will be both host and one of the speakers at the joint seminar.

    BSKB Partners Gerald Murphy and Craig McRobbie to Present at 2017 PLI Patent Law Institute

    BSKB partners Gerald M. Murphy, Jr. and Craig A. McRobbie will present lectures on chemical, pharmaceutical and biotech patent prosecution and post grant practice at the Practising Law Institute (PLI)’s 11th Annual Patent Law Institute in April 2017. The annual Patent Law Institute is directed towards patent prosecutors, patent litigators and strategic/transactional lawyers, and features plenary sessions as well as separate breakout sessions for each subgroup of practitioners. Other featured speakers include federal judges, government officials, academics and in-house counsel, and the sessions will cover updates to laws affecting patent practice as well as practical suggestions for practitioners. The 2017 Patent Law Institute will be held in New York, NY on April 6-7, 2017 and in San Francisco, CA and via webcast on April 27-28, 2017. Mr. Murphy and Mr. McRobbie have been speakers at the Patent Law Institute since 2009 and 2016, respectively.

    BSKB partners Gerald M. Murphy, Jr. and Craig A. McRobbie will present lectures on chemical, pharmaceutical and biotech patents at the Practising Law Institute (PLI)’s 10th Annual Patent Law Institute in 2016. The 2016 Patent Law Institute will be held in New York, NY on April 14-15, 2016, and in San Francisco, CA on May 5-6, 2016. Mr. Murphy has been a speaker at the annual Patent Law Institute since 2009.

    BSKB Partner MaryAnne Armstrong, Ph.D., to Present ACS Webinar on Collaborative Research Considerations

    MaryAnne Armstrong, Ph.D., partner at BSKB, will present a webinar entitled “Pitfalls to Avoid in Collaborative Research” for the Chemistry and the Law (CHAL) division of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The webinar will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00pm EDT, and there is no cost to attend. The CHAL webinar series is focused on patent-related topics of interest to chemists, and this webinar will focus on collaborative research considerations.

    BSKB Co-Sponsors Howard University Law School’s 13th Annual IP Law Seminar – Gerald Murphy to Speak

    BSKB will co-sponsor the 13th Annual Intellectual Property Law Seminar hosted by Howard University’s Institute for Intellectual Property and Social Justice. The day-long seminar will be held at the Howard University School of Law on March 4, 2016, and will feature speakers from government entities, corporations and private practice covering a variety of intellectual property topics. Distinguished guests include Hon. Susan G. Braden of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, Hon. Charles E.     BSKB Continues Successful Representation of Petitioner Before PTAB and CAFC

    BSKB members Gerald M. Murphy, Jr., MaryAnne Armstrong, Ph.D., Eugene T. Perez and Lynde F. Herzbach represented petitioner BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. in a series of successful trials before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and also in related appeals at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC).

    BSKB BioMarin Case Listed as a Top AIA-Related Decision of 2016 by Law360

    The case between Genzyme Therapeutic Products LP and BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc., in which the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) affirmed two decisions by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), has been listed by Law360 in “A Look Back at the Top AIA-Related Decisions of 2016” (article available to Law360 subscribers here). In this case, the CAFC addressed procedural rights before the PTAB, ruling that further evidence of invalidity can be offered after a review is instituted. BSKB members Gerald M. Murphy, Jr., MaryAnne Armstrong, Ph.D., Eugene T. Perez and Lynde F. Herzbach represented petitioner BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. in the successful trials before the PTAB and appeals before the CAFC.

    BSKB attorneys MaryAnne Armstrong, Ph.D., Paul Lewis, Michael Mutter and Leonard Svensson have been recognized by Managing IP as IP Stars for 2016. This is the fourth year in a row that Dr. Armstrong and Mr. Lewis have been recognized as IP Stars. BSKB was also listed as “recommended” for intellectual property in Virginia.     BSKB Announces Elevation of Lynde Herzbach and Chad Wells to Partnership

    BSKB is pleased to announce that Lynde Herzbach and Chad Wells have been elevated to the partnership of the firm. Ms. Herzbach focuses her practice on litigation and post grant proceedings for clients in a variety of fields, including software, electronics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing processes. She also has experience with patent prosecution in the area of electrical engineering. Ms. Herzbach received her B.S.E., cum laude, from the University of Michigan and her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
