UCB v. Actavis Laboratories – Relying on range limitations in claims to distinguish from prior art

This lecture will discuss the recent case of UCB v. Actavis Laboratories (Fed. Cir. April 2023) that discusses how to analyze the validity of patent claims that recite a numerical range in view of prior art that discloses an overlapping range. In this case, the patent claims at issue were held to be obvious over the prior art. This case also provides a summary of a few prior cases that discuss the issue.
