Falls Church, Virginia – January 16, 2020. Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch, LLP (BSKB), an Intellectual Property law firm based in Falls Church, Virginia, has named Catherine M. Voisinet a partner with the firm effective January 1, 2020. Ms. Voisinet’s practice focuses on counseling domestic and international clients that have interests in many fields of complex  technologies, including software and hardware computer technology, electrical, mechanical, business method and bio-informatics.

Ms. Voisinet assists clients in planning their intellectual property strategies and obtaining patent rights for their innovations, such as claiming and filing strategies; conducting patent audits and clearance searches; preparing freedom-to-operate opinions; and preparing, filing and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications, nationally and internationally, through appellate oral arguments before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Trials and Appeals Board. She has extensive experience in post-grant matters, such as preparing and prosecuting post-grant applications, including reexamination and reissue applications, and preparing opinions analyzing patentability, patent validity and patent infringement issues.  

Ms. Voisinet began her career in the intellectual property field as a patent examiner at the USPTO, examining applications in information processing, system organization and error detection/correction. She then represented numerous national and international companies, from startups to Fortune 25 companies, including Hewlett Packard Company, as outside and in-house counsel.

In addition to practicing intellectual property law, Ms. Voisinet has lectured extensively in the U.S., Europe and Asia, including presenting seminars at the Danish Patent Office on various topics related to copyright, trade secret and patent law, including patent prosecution, litigation and licensing.

Ms. Voisinet received her bachelor’s degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics from Hunter College of the City University of New York. She received her JD from Brooklyn Law School and took an intellectual property law concentration at the George Mason University Law School.
