AFD Specialist
Overview
The Applications & Formalities Department (AFD) is responsible for the preparation and filing of
- all new non-Provisional US Patent applications and corresponding formalities documents
- all requests for correction to formalities documents
- all responses to PTO notices
- all IDS submissions with application filings and Missing Parts/Requirement responses. Applications & Formalities Department Specialists will continually be mentored by AFD Team Leaders in processes and procedures.
The AFD Specialist possesses a comprehensive understanding of the IP prosecution process for US Patent application filings and formalities.
The AFD Specialist is cross-trained in the rules and procedures regarding US application filings and formalities matters.
Qualifications
Work Experience
Minimum of six (6) months experience in an Intellectual Property environment.
Knowledge and Expertise
Required:
- Minimum high school diploma. Related work experience may be used in lieu of formal education.
- Knowledge of and experience with general office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.
Strongly preferred:
- Knowledge of and experience with mainstream IP Portfolio Management software such as CPI, Inprotech, Foundation IP, Master Data, PATTSY, Patricia, etc.
- Knowledge of and experience with Elite or other similar billing system.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Great attention to detail, including neatness, accuracy, and ability to review PTO documents and client correspondence.
